A new Work Programme for 2019-21 has been adopted for the graphical sector’s social dialogue committee, signalling a new start in Intergraf’s ongoing dialogue with UNI Europa Graphical and the European Commission.

This month saw the annual plenary session of the graphical sector’s social dialogue take place. This meeting was a busy one, as there were a number of texts tabled to be formally adopted, including the new Work Programme for 2019-21, and a Joint Statement on Skills.

Our new Work Programme follows many of the same issues as in previous years. We will retain a focus on exploring sectoral trends, skills, new business models state aid & unfair competition and image & environment. All of these topics will remain pertinent to our industry in the upcoming 3 years. In addition, two new sections have been included in the new Work Programme: digitisation and demographics. Both of these issues strongly relate to skills, but because they have become significant trends it was decided that an enhanced focus would be useful. The committee now has a mandate to address in more detail, for example, technological trends, new technologies, the transfer of knowledge between older and younger workers, lifelong learning and recruitment.

A Joint Paper on Skills was also adopted at the plenary. Employers, trade unions and the Commission largely agree on this topic and want to ensure that the industry has the right pool of skills for the future.

Presentations were also given at the plenary about employee engagement, seeking a stronger EU industrial policy (#Industry4Europe coalition), European economic developments and updates on two image campaigns: Two Sides and Keep me Posted EU.
