  • Bio: Kari Spjeldnæs is an Associate Professor and Head of Department at Kristiania University College. The influence of digitalization on long-form leisure reading is Spjeldnæs’ key focus in research. In her PhD thesis from the University of Bergen in the autumn of 2023, she explores changes in reading habits and the consequences of digitalization on adult leisure readers and publishers. Furthermore, Spjeldnæs has extended experience in the publishing industry, having worked more than 30 years in Norwegian trade publishing, 20 of them in leadership positions. Thus, Spjeldnæs combines the insider perspective from editorial practices, commercial business premises, and digital development with the scientific scrutinizing of the ongoing change due to digitalization. She has published three scientific articles on leisure reading and publishing in reputable journals, a fourth of which is forthcoming. She has also published a non-fiction narrative on reading pleasure (2020).
