Dr Roman Zenner has been involved in the e-commerce industry since 2001. Since then, he has witnessed every major paradigm shift first-hand: Mobile, Headless, MACH, Composable, and now Agentic Commerce. He spent five years as an industry analyst at commercetools, followed by six more at Shopify in the areas of education, partnerships and solution engineering. In parallel, he has been writing about e-commerce technologies on the ShopTechBlog since 2006, has published several specialist books with O’Reilly, and speaks at conferences, universities and on podcasts.
His current focus lies at the intersection of Agentic AI and e-commerce - specifically, on the question of what happens when autonomous agents take over product search, checkout and fulfilment. What role do protocols such as Google’s UCP play? How good does product data need to be for an agent to understand it at all? And what does this mean for retailers and platforms in Europe?
Through the recently founded Agentic Punks GmbH, he advises companies in a pragmatic and solution-oriented manner, with open source, the open internet and European data sovereignty forming part of the company’s DNA.
